HEY- An Update on Basecamp’s Email Startup Leaving the Public Cloud Behind
We reported a stat shared by Michael Dell that 83% of enterprises plan to move workloads back to private data center infrastructure from the public cloud. Most of those organizations are repatriating meaningful applications that have proven to cost a lot more to run in a pricey public cloud. While most are not moving out of the cloud in total some are transitioning a majority of their infrastructure to traditional data center environments.
But some organizations have had cloud experiences that make them gung ho on full data center repatriation, including Basecamp’s email startup HEY. HEY announced their intention by telling the tech world “the cloud is really expensive,”. and then reported on their progress mid-project with a detailed update.
HEY has now shared that they are very focused on fully exiting Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure for their storage within the next couple of months, largely because of the $5,000 a day it will cost them to miss the deadline.
If, like HEY, your cloud bills have escalated beyond what you originally expected you may wish to consider other infrastructure solutions in Eastern Pennsylvania.
