Pennsylvania Policies Encouraging Tech Growth
Since we last reported on a nice burst of early 2025 tech sector activity in our midst there is more good news, and it is related to government programs supporting Pennsylvania businesses. After a late start, in recent years our Commonwealth has been catching up with other states in supporting the tech sector, which encourages jobs and growth.
A few examples:
Streamlined State Procurement: The federal government, while making some nice strides toward the creation of IT infrastructure and ramping up chip manufacturing, is still tough to engage with. Here in Pennsylvania the state government is working to streamline the procurement process for technology and related solutions. This promises to lead to more innovation and new solutions as smaller, more entrepreneurial companies have an easier pathway to doing business with our Commonwealth.
Funding Innovation: Along with greater opportunities for smaller businesses to work with them, the state is also providing public funding to foster innovation in the life sciences sector. The Reading Eagle reports that state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger has been making the rounds to small businesses in that category to alert them to the opportunities with the PA Innovation program that come along with $50 million in state funding.
Life Saving in Life Sciences: In another public/private partnership over 2000 lives are reported to have been saved by the recently developed Bashir Eastern Endovascular Catheter, a partnership between Thrombolex, a New Britain Township firm, and Temple University cardiologist Dr. Riyaz Bashir. Both state and federal funding participated in bringing to market the new device, which dissolves arterial and thromboembolic clots. This news is yet another proof point that Pennsylvania’s medical and life sciences research and development is second to none.
It’s a good time to be in the technology sector in Pennsylvania and it seems to be getting better all the time. Let’s all continue to strive to make the most of it.
