Ransomware Gangs’ Sophistication in Breaching Azure is Eye-Opening

If your responsibilities touch on technology at all, this article is a must for you.

The level of sophistication, use of readily available tools, and creative thinking displayed by the bad actors who breached Azure cloud storage is truly eye-opening.

Investing in your IT security team, ongoing education about the sophistication of hacking gangs social engineering, and other InfoSec preparation and execution is more important than ever.  But as seen in this instance, it still may not be enough when the cleverness of ransomware gangs has them a step ahead of major cloud providers as well.

Some form of immutable backup is an absolute requirement, enabling you return to the point in time before the infrastructure infiltration occurred, limiting your data loss and reclaiming your web assets from hackers.  To do this most effectively you need to determine both your recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) and have a physical data center presence outside of the public cloud.

RPO, RTO, cloud disaster recovery vs. a physical DR site, and numerous other issues are discussed in the new Direct LTx white paper Maintaining High Availability: Nine Critical Steps to take for Disaster Recovery Success. “
