An Overview of IT Infrastructure Transformation

More lessons from the Direct LTx Tech Fair

We are continuing to highlight the valuable content shared by Direct LTx customers who joined us as sponsors of the recent Direct LTx Tech Fair.

Josh Hinkle, president and chief executive officer at Splashwire shared a presentation entitled “A Better Way to Consume Technology” that offered a broad-based IT infrastructure plan to strategize, select, implement, and protect digital assets.

Assessment Leads to a Plan Implemented at a Strategic Cadence:  Josh suggested that enterprises and SMBs should engage in assessment and gap analysis to develop a strategy for improving their overall IT security and performance.   The takeaways from those assessments would be best implemented with a commitment to strategic cadence.  This is not a process to rush, but neither should it fall off-track.

Policy, Process, and Procedures:  The improvements that these organizations should strive for should focus on the 3Ps, policy, process, and procedures.   A more secure, higher performing technology infrastructure should result from those three areas.   If any suggested adjustment in an organization’s technology does not involve policy, process, and procedure it should be reviewed closely to see how well-thought-out its implementation is.

Success Requires Process:   Integration of business- critical technologies in an organization needs to have buy-in from executive leadership.  The executive team must empower a solution selection process that determines what adjustments to a company’s strategy should be, based on the priorities of the company and realistic timeframes for execution of the plan.  story online can make all the difference.

Choosing the Proper Infrastructure Environments:  It needs to be determined if applications and workloads are best served in a traditional, company-owned-and-operated data center or if it would be better to be in a cloud environment.   As on-site hosting for many organizations may be insecure and lack resiliency, for many a cloud environment, may be determined to be best.  But should that cloud environment be a private cloud, public cloud, or would some form of hybrid cloud solution be better?   This determination needs to be made for all of a company’s applications and systems, from CRM to ERP to EMR to EDI, to UC.   Meanwhile, each system needs to fit into the right infrastructure, which may not be the same environment for each system.

Protect & Defend:  Cybersecurity remains a primary need as well.   Identification of the organization’s assets and processes in need of protection is the first step.  Following next should be the development and execution of a plan to safeguard those assets.  The ability to detect attempts at intrusion before they become breaches, respond to incidents, and recover from any cybersecurity event are critical for any organization.

Expert Help Needed: The need for a solid plan and a sound process executed systematically is not easy, even with the executive buy-in required.  That’s why a trusted subject matter expert in the field of IT infrastructure, cloud, telecom, and systems integration is needed.   Splashwire is a firm that can help.   For an introduction please contact sales@directltx.com
